Owner Cory Walkey, a veteran horsewoman, heads the Eventing program at Mill Creek. She was born and raised in Southern California and has produced some of the top Event riders on the West Coast. She received her instructor’s certification in Great Britain in 1964 and trained and competed in Ireland. Before starting her own barn, Cory managed Will Roger’s Riding Club in Pacific Palisades. Cory opened Mill Creek in 1973 with the love and support of her family. Through a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication, she created a highly regarded, first-class riding facility.

Cory always had three or four horses she competed all over California in both Dressage and Eventing. Up until the early nineties, Cory competed at FEI level Dressage. As the business grew and more students came to Mill Creek, her career gradually evolved into that of trainer and manager. Cory fits perfectly into this role as she is a superb instructor who sometimes makes her students feel that she is reading their minds rather than making use of her uncanny ability to read a rider’s body language. This enables Cory to point out not only unconscious mistakes students make, but also to highlight what they are doing correctly by instinct. She is also deeply skilled in reading horses, which assists riders in resolving problems more quickly and enhances the learning experience. Cory’s success as both a trainer and manager is evident by the many team and individual awards, both local and national, that are won by her students year after year.
