UCLA Recreation Riding Program at Mill Creek

Read the UCLA Today article about this program!!

Mill Creek has been working through UCLA Recreation since 1988 to provide a program similar to our Summer Day Camp. All UCLA Faculty, Students and Staff who are members of the UCLA Recreation Center are welcome to participate. The seven week courses are taught year round.  Each class includes seven one hour riding lessons and seven half hour sessions on horse care.  All participants must wear hard-soled shoes (visit our Policies page for additional information on riding attire and our Resources page for information on where to purchase it).

We offer these lessons to all levels of riders as follows:

  • Beginning - No experience necessary (class normally offered Sunday mornings).
  • Advanced Beginning - Riders are comfortable at the walk, trot and canter and know diagonals (class normally offered Wednesday evenings).
  • Intermediate - Riders refine their position, learn to ride a jumping course and begin dressage (classes to be arranged--at this level riders can fit into our regular group lessons).
  • Advanced - Riders continue to work on dressage and stadium jumping (classes to be arranged--at this level riders can fit into our regular group lessons).

Scheduling, enrollment and cost information is available through the UCLA Recreation web page. Click on "Browse Courses" > Click on the appropriate term (e.g. F2009) > Click "Sports" and then you will see the current Riding course offerings in the left navigation pane.
