Courtney was born in 1983 and grew up in Calabasas California. She has always had a love for horses and began riding at Mill Creek Equestrian Center at age seven. Mill Creek is where she started her first formal riding lessons. She spent the next fifteen years growing up at Mill Creek. During summer vacations, Courtney would work at the barn and teach riding lessons. Cory Walkey found her first horse, Dan, when she was twelve years old and they went on to win Jr. Training Champion in California and second place Jr. Training Champion in the U.S. After that Dan and Courtney won fifth place in the Jr/YR Fritz Cup CCI* at Galway Downs. Later on Courtney and Dan pursued dressage and trained with Mette Rosencrantz and competed successfully through fourth level. Cory also found her second horse, Logan. Shortly after Courtney bought Logan she went to college at California State Northridge and received a degree in psychology. While in college Courtney and Logan trained with Gina Economou. The pair successfully competed through the Advanced level and placed fifth at the Galway Downs CCI*.
Since 2003, Courtney has been teaching Pony Club in Monte Nido, California. As a teacher, Courtney says it has been rewarding to watch her students grow and become better riders. While teaching, safety is her biggest objective; enabling students to progress in their riding in the safest possible way is one of her personal goals. Courtney believes that you have to know when it is safe to push the rider and when it is time to back off. She believes that strong basics are the foundation to riding successfully.
